Luke 17:5-10 Sermon Outline

Big Idea: Learn to recognize the opportunities Jesus will place before you.

X2: When we learn to listen to Jesus we begin to get Jesus-style results

#1: God calls us to be the healthy kind of humble

  • Lawyer Ref: steer left or right of center
  • NT Wright: “We don’t need great faith, we need faith in a great God.”
  • Humility: recognize source of every blessing / every accomplishment
  • Erase Merit as a source: NOTE* No medals in Christian Faith -> “Good Christian Award”

#2: Healthy Humility will increase the volume of God’s Voice

  • Question: How do you make decisions? How do we as church family make decisions?
  • Healthy humility listens for the voice of the Holy Spirit?

#3: God promises bite-size victories and biggie-size victories

  • Jesus says, “I am going to work through those who are humble/obedient” in every context
  • What’s your dream that you cannot shake? You think about it?

I live to answer the question: “So how did you go from civil engineering to becoming a priest??” I have been here since 2008 when I arrived as the assistant. Since 2012 I have been leading the church as the Priest-in-Charge, and now as the full-time Lead Pastor. I grew up in Sussex, N.B. and then studied Civil Engineering at UNB Fredericton. After a brief period in youth ministry my wife and I moved to Uganda to teach and work at an Anglican Secondary School. After that, I studied at Wycliffe College in Toronto, ON and was ordained in 2008. I served with the Naval Reserve for a number of years but now as the Chaplain for 3 Field Artillery Regiment in Saint John and Woodstock, N.B. I love the outdoors and in my down time I enjoy running, sailing and playing music, but most importantly, time with my family.
