“Let’s Go Camping,” they said. “It’ll Be Fun,” they said.
Exodus 17:1-7
Big Idea: Deep trust in God brings deep impact
X2: Trust God to follow through and you will see the results
#1: There is power in learning to remember what God has already done
- Remember what I have already done: plagues, Red Sea, manna, etc
o Those miracles haven’t lost their potency
o BUT!!! Past miracles don’t lose their power
- I’ve forgiven and I won’t forget
- Communion: Jesus, “Do this in remembrance of me.”
#2: Learn to Re-focus the present situation
- Human response vs. Holy re-focus
- Israelites: built the pyramids, could have started digging, complained…
- Moses asks God, “What should I do?”
- In any situation it is possible to settle for complaining, frustration
- OR… Holy Re-focus: God what do you want to do in this situation?
- Every problem is an opportunity to develop deeper trust in God -> who shows up/gracious/powrful
- God uses a trust agent: “.. take some elders with you…” experience, wisdom, memory, respect
#3: Trusting God allows you to peacefully release the future
- Ex. 17 -> not done -> lots more to come -> nature of a camping journey
- Trust emerges:
o We can trust that he can do it again / it will continue
Foreshadowing: water from rock -> Jesus “Water of life”, Rock over tomb -> nothing we can’t trust
