Matthew 17:1-9
Big Idea: Listen for Jesus and you will always be led exactly where you need to be led
X2: Jesus loves you enough to lead you through every situation life give you
Transfiguration: Pre-Easter “Glory Glimpse” ->
- Parallels: mountain, 2 thieves, dark sky, Centurion declaration, Peter gone…
- Transfiguration: Easter minus the victorious, ultimate sacrifice-> triumph of love
#1: Jesus is always within earshot
God wouldn’t say “..Listen to him” unless we had the capacity to do it (not impossible)
- Listening: Not bound to senses: God close beyond senses
#2: Jesus is powerful but not entertaining
How do we measure power? Optics of someone with Power?
- Often confuse humility with weakness – JESUS WAS POWERFUL – Hemorrhaging woman
#3: Listening to Jesus makes Fear give way to Focus
- Last week: Face danger? Fight/Flight -> Third way: fall to knees with Jesus
- Different kinds of fear: negative things happen, change, losing control: even if for the better
- Listening to Jesus can lead you through fear – change, control
- What’s our Focus/Purpose? (Nouwen Quote)
- What have we been given? A God within ear shot, a humble but powerful God, God that can eclipse fear, victorious for us in sacrifice, love!!
