Big Idea: For strength in temptation stay tethered to Jesus

X2: You will be tested, God’s promise is to keep you grounded

YOU WILL BE TEMPTED/TESTED ->

3 tools for the test

#1: The Goal is Worship  x2: What’s my purpose in life? Worship

  • Greatest Commandment:  “Love Lord.. Love neighbor…”
  • Called to be faithful, not successful
  • Challenge: always competitors for our worship -> enter temptation

#2: Jesus had you in mind when he went to the desert

  • He knew you would be tempted/tested
  • He knew we would fail
  • He knew price to win us back -> desert, cross, tomb…
  • When we pray: “… lead us not into temptation..” he’s been there
  • Ex. Walk in house with lights off?? walk by faith… then walk by faith with experience..

#3: Following Jesus is the Key  x2: staying tethered to the source of victory is the Key

  • Ex. Army/Navy/Air Force ->  “the best”
  • Jesus does all three
  • Air Force: Temptation in Desert -> cross -> tomb -> sin/death defeated/ HOPE RESTORED
  • Navy: Jesus walks beside us -> through the temptation (Road to Emmaus)
  • Army: Jesus trusts us/empowers us to love/serve others

I live to answer the question: “So how did you go from civil engineering to becoming a priest??” I have been here since 2008 when I arrived as the assistant. Since 2012 I have been leading the church as the Priest-in-Charge, and now as the full-time Lead Pastor. I grew up in Sussex, N.B. and then studied Civil Engineering at UNB Fredericton. After a brief period in youth ministry my wife and I moved to Uganda to teach and work at an Anglican Secondary School. After that, I studied at Wycliffe College in Toronto, ON and was ordained in 2008. I served with the Naval Reserve for a number of years but now as the Chaplain for 3 Field Artillery Regiment in Saint John and Woodstock, N.B. I love the outdoors and in my down time I enjoy running, sailing and playing music, but most importantly, time with my family.
