Big Idea: Jesus can empower you to connect beyond any category

X2: Jesus can destroy the power of our differences and divisions.

Story/Context:

• John 4: 3 reasons for division/distance: Samaritan, woman, lifestyle
• INSTEAD: Jesus listens to her, receives from her, connects with her

#1: Our church family is united around our common call

• Church, “Ecclesia”: “ek”-from, “kaleo”- called:  Church=”Called out”
• Recognize: God calls you/us… and God calls all of our neighbors.

#2: Power comes from our God-given Identity

• Mystery/Miracle takes place when we root ourselves in who God says we are

#3: There is power in living out our identity and call

• Earliest witness: Acts 2
• Core Mandate: strong/loving Church family – powerful witness (By this they will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.)
• How?  From “I-It” to “I-Thou” -> sacred space for miracle/mystery to take place
• See others NOT as a means to an end but God’s beloved to share love with
• KEY: Keep returning to our IDENTITY AND CALL
• Essential to spend time with Jesus (alone and together) Prayer is essential
• This means: we need each other/your connection in our faith community is essential!!
• The Kingdom of God is wherever our call and our identity in Christ are getting lived out, starts here
