Big Idea: In a world with plenty of darkness, Jesus gives us light no darkness can quench

Story/Context: Light/Bible: Ps 139: ¹¹ If I say, ‘Surely the darkness shall cover me, and the light around me become night’, ¹² even the darkness is not dark to you; the night is as bright as the day, for darkness is as light to you.

• ^{2 *}The people who walked in darkness have seen a great light; those who lived in a land of deep darkness— on them light has shined. ³ You have multiplied the nation, you have increased its joy;
• ⁷⁸ By the tender mercy of our God, the dawn from on high will break upon^* us, ⁷⁹ to give light to those who sit in darkness and in the shadow of death, to guide our feet into the way of peace.’
• 12Again Jesus spoke to them, saying, ‘I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness but will have the light of life.’
• 14‘You are the light of the world. A city built on a hill cannot be hidden.

When we receive Jesus/His light enters our hearts: gives HOPE despair can’t quench, STRENGTH fear can’t quench, PEACE darkness can’t quench
