Luke 10:25-37 Sermon Outline
Big Idea: The highest calling God gives you is to be his mercy in motion
Story/Context: Jewish / Samaritan “history”
• Lawyer couldn’t even say “Samaritan”
• His Question: Is there a limit to who I have to love / actually, actively care about??
#1: Of all the places life is found…Life is found in living mercifully
• Vs. 25 “what must I do to inherit eternal life?” vs. 28 “… do this and you will live.”
• Core belief, core practice, core goal, core aspiration -> share the mercy you’ve been shown
• What if I haven’t been shown mercy? God has shown you mercy -> tap into it…
• If I accomplish nothing else but loving God and loving those who are near&in need – that’ll due
#2: What does being a real, genuine Neighbor look like?
• Glean from parable – Jesus intentional about details
• Question: Which one do you find easy? Which one do you find hard to do?
#3: Behavioral theme emerging: Be God’s mercy in motion / Share the mercy you’ve been shown
• Tap into source of mercy -> eat mercy meal, digest mercy scripture, sit with Holy Spirit, meditate on mercy, etc.
• Concept: “Neighborhood”: Samaritan-style neighborhood -> church behavior (see above)
• Apply Samaritan-style behavioral theme to Front Space/Back space ->
Pray: tap into source not like gas station but like wifi – Monday to Sunday
