Belize Update March 7, 2017

March 9, 2017 By Rev. Michael Caines

Belize blog, day #6, March 7th, 2017

This morning we went to St. Vincent’s school again, we sang songs and did crafts with the children (on the picnic tables we built 2 years ago with the last team!)
One of the greatest moments as a team this morning was when we were singing “We Are Marching in the Light of God” with the children and one of the teachers poked his head out the window to tell a team member that he could feel God’s Holy Spirit in that moment. As a team this is really what it is all about, to bring God to the people and especially the children of Belize and watch Him work!
We then went to Miss Radiance’s house to help with her neighbourhood ministry of feeding the children every day when they get off school for lunch. Each of us felt incredibly blessed to be a part of this ministry, even just for a day, knowing Miss Radiance will continue the work daily for as long as God’s willing!

We had plans to go to the tourist gift shop Art Box yesterday but we all forgot that it was a holiday in Belize and they were closed! We were then again blessed with a small window of opportunity to visit today after the lunch program and everyone found something in the Art Box for a loved one back home!

We then went to the learning centre run by Mr. Carmen and Miss Faye for homework help. After school work was done, we all had a blast talking and singing with the kids, as well as playing on the playground with them!

We finished the day with more craft prep for tomorrow for the same schedule; school, lunch program, then learning centre!

Rev. Michael Caines

I live to answer the question: “So how did you go from civil engineering to becoming a priest??” I have been here since 2008 when I arrived as the assistant. Since 2012 I have been leading the church as the Priest-in-Charge, and now as the full-time Lead Pastor. I grew up in Sussex, N.B. and then studied Civil Engineering at UNB Fredericton. After a brief period in youth ministry my wife and I moved to Uganda to teach and work at an Anglican Secondary School. After that, I studied at Wycliffe College in Toronto, ON and was ordained in 2008. I served with the Naval Reserve for a number of years but now as the Chaplain for 3 Field Artillery Regiment in Saint John and Woodstock, N.B. I love the outdoors and in my down time I enjoy running, sailing and playing music, but most importantly, time with my family.
