John 21:1-19
Big Idea: Death couldn’t hold Jesus back from us, why should anything hold us back from following him?
X2: The risen Jesus is looking for nothing more and nothing less than followers.
#1: God’s Grace has a Face / Death couldn’t keep Jesus from showing up
#2: God’s Grace is Resilient (Resilient Grace)
- Peter: closest follower -> Passionate&Impulsive
All disciples abandon Jesus -> BUT… He’s back
“So many of us expect to encounter a God who doesn’t like us, who is critical, judgemental, or disinterested in us. Leave those false visions of God and come meet the God on the beach who prepares breakfast.” Skye Jethani
- “Do you love me.” x3 -> mirrors 3 denials -> reinstates Peter
Question is not: “Does God love me?” but, “Do I love him?”
#3: God’s Grace is completed in our Obedience/Discipline
True freedom is found in following Jesus
- The fulfillment of our design is to listen to Jesus, love Jesus and love like Jesus
- How!!?? Celebration of Discipline: Inward disciplines, Outward disciplines, Corporate disciplines
