Big Idea: You can find a “Thank You Jesus” in every restless situation.

X2: God’s Love can restore us from restlessness.

#1: We can thank God for Patience

  • Son: severed relationship: “You are dead to me.” Imagine the hurt and pain…
  • Father waits… a long time… – Stresses the patience of God
  • “Love is patient..”:
  • What are the seemingly “hopeless cases” for you? Health? Loved-one? Situation?

#2: We can thank God for his Passion

  • The Passion of God is infinite: everything’s been done to for a full/vibrant relationship with God
  • Jesus himself: “travels to a distant country” for us – Christmas/Easter

#3: We can ask God for his Perspective

  • “… I worked like a slave for you…” We don’t do things for God, we do things with God.
  • For tax-collectors/sinners: hopeless, For Pharisees/Scribes: hopelessly rigid – disconnect
  • Imagine: Father running to son… that’s you. Imagine Father appealing to older son: that’s you.
  • Can I know God like the father running to me? Also, who are you an older brother for? Who do you grumble about?

Rev. Michael Caines

I live to answer the question: “So how did you go from civil engineering to becoming a priest??” I have been here since 2008 when I arrived as the assistant. Since 2012 I have been leading the church as the Priest-in-Charge, and now as the full-time Lead Pastor. I grew up in Sussex, N.B. and then studied Civil Engineering at UNB Fredericton. After a brief period in youth ministry my wife and I moved to Uganda to teach and work at an Anglican Secondary School. After that, I studied at Wycliffe College in Toronto, ON and was ordained in 2008. I served with the Naval Reserve for a number of years but now as the Chaplain for 3 Field Artillery Regiment in Saint John and Woodstock, N.B. I love the outdoors and in my down time I enjoy running, sailing and playing music, but most importantly, time with my family.
